Cart drawer

When a shopper clicks Add to cart or the cart icon in the header, a slide-in drawer opens from the right showing:

  • Line items (products, quantities, prices)
  • Order note field (optional)
  • Free shipping progress bar (optional)
  • Cart upsells (optional)
  • Subtotal
  • Checkout button + accelerated checkout buttons

Enable cart drawer

Open the theme editor

Theme settings → Cart

Find Cart type

  • Cart drawer (default) — slide-in from the right (recommended)
  • Cart page — clicking Add to cart navigates to /cart (traditional)
  • Cart popup — small popup near the cart icon (rare)

Save

Drawer is the modern standard. Amazon, Shopify checkout itself, and most premium themes use the drawer. Shoppers can continue browsing without losing their place.

Add order note

Theme settings → Cart

Find Show order note

Toggle on. A “Special instructions” textarea appears in the cart drawer for gift messages, delivery notes, etc.

The note travels through to your Shopify order — you see it in the order details.

Free shipping progress bar

See Free shipping bar.

Cart upsells

See Cart upsells.

Cart empty state

When the drawer is opened with no items:

Theme settings → Cart

Find Empty cart heading + Empty cart text + Empty cart button

Set the messaging shown when the cart is empty. Typical: “Your cart is empty. Shop the collection.” with a button to your best-sellers collection.
