Video & 3D media

Beyond photos, your product gallery can include:

  • Video — MP4 uploads (hosted by Shopify), YouTube, or Vimeo
  • 3D models.glb or .usdz files shoppers can rotate

Both render below the image gallery in the same media area.

Add a video

Shopify admin → Products → [pick a product]

Scroll to Media

Click Add media → Upload video

For a hosted MP4 (recommended), upload directly. Or click Add from URL and paste a YouTube / Vimeo link.

Save

The video appears in the gallery with a play button overlay. Shoppers click to play with sound.

Add a 3D model

Same Media section

Click Add media → Upload 3D model

Upload a .glb file (best format, wide support) or .usdz (Apple’s AR format, required for iOS AR viewing).

Save

Shoppers see the model in the gallery with a spin icon. Click and drag to rotate. On iOS Safari, they can tap “View in AR” to see the product at real size in their environment.

Best practices

Video

  • Keep it short. 15–30 seconds is plenty for a product demo.
  • Vertical or square works better on mobile than landscape.
  • First frame matters — Shopify uses it as the poster. Pick a still that looks like a real photo (product centered, clean background).
  • Compress — 20MB is too big. Aim for 5MB or less.

3D

  • Real dimensions. The model must be at real-world scale for AR to work properly (a 3ft table needs to be a 3ft model).
  • Below 10MB. Larger models take too long to load on mobile.
  • Neutral lighting. Don’t bake dramatic lighting into the model — it clashes with the shopper’s environment when placed in AR.
