Free shipping bar
A small progress bar in the cart drawer showing how close a shopper is to qualifying for free shipping. Increases average order value by encouraging shoppers to add one more item.
Enable it
Open the theme editor
Theme settings → Cart
Find Free shipping bar
Toggle Show free shipping bar on.
Set the threshold
Enter your free shipping minimum in your store currency, e.g. 75 for $75.
Set the message
- Not qualified yet: “You’re $XX away from free shipping”
- Qualified: “You’ve unlocked free shipping!”
The theme automatically substitutes the remaining amount into “XX”.

How it works
When a shopper adds a product to the cart:
- The cart drawer opens.
- The bar shows the total spent (fill %) and remaining to threshold.
- As they add more, the bar fills up.
- When they hit the threshold, the message swaps to the qualified state.
Match your actual policy. The bar is a UX cue — it doesn’t create a discount code or auto-apply free shipping. Your Shopify shipping settings must have a Free shipping over $75 rule for the actual shipping cost to hit zero at checkout.
Set up the shipping rule
Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery
Click your shipping profile
Usually “General shipping rates”
Add a rate
Click Add rate, name it “Free shipping”, set condition to Based on order price, minimum $75 (or whatever your threshold), price $0.
Save
Now the actual checkout shows free shipping for orders ≥ threshold, matching the progress bar shoppers saw in the cart.
