Free shipping bar

A small progress bar in the cart drawer showing how close a shopper is to qualifying for free shipping. Increases average order value by encouraging shoppers to add one more item.

Enable it

Open the theme editor

Theme settings → Cart

Find Free shipping bar

Toggle Show free shipping bar on.

Set the threshold

Enter your free shipping minimum in your store currency, e.g. 75 for $75.

Set the message

  • Not qualified yet: “You’re $XX away from free shipping”
  • Qualified: “You’ve unlocked free shipping!”

The theme automatically substitutes the remaining amount into “XX”.

How it works

When a shopper adds a product to the cart:

  1. The cart drawer opens.
  2. The bar shows the total spent (fill %) and remaining to threshold.
  3. As they add more, the bar fills up.
  4. When they hit the threshold, the message swaps to the qualified state.

Match your actual policy. The bar is a UX cue — it doesn’t create a discount code or auto-apply free shipping. Your Shopify shipping settings must have a Free shipping over $75 rule for the actual shipping cost to hit zero at checkout.

Set up the shipping rule

Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery

Click your shipping profile

Usually “General shipping rates”

Add a rate

Click Add rate, name it “Free shipping”, set condition to Based on order price, minimum $75 (or whatever your threshold), price $0.

Save

Now the actual checkout shows free shipping for orders ≥ threshold, matching the progress bar shoppers saw in the cart.
