Country / language selector
For stores that sell in more than one country or ship internationally, Citera shows a dropdown selector in the footer where shoppers pick their country and language.
Prerequisites
The selector only appears when your store has more than one Shopify Market configured. To check:
Go to Shopify admin → Settings → Markets
Verify multiple markets
If you only have one market (usually “Primary market”), the selector is hidden. This is by design — a single-market store doesn’t need the switcher.
Add markets
To add international selling, click Add market and follow the setup flow.
Free plan doesn’t include Markets. You need to be on Basic Shopify or higher for the multi-market feature. If you’re on the free trial, the selector won’t appear even if you configure markets.
Where the selector appears
Once you have multiple markets, the selector automatically appears:
- In the footer, always
- Optionally in the header (see below)
Show in the header too
For international-heavy stores, a header-level selector is more visible:
The selector then appears next to the cart icon, showing the current country flag and language code.
Currency vs language
The selector shows:
- Country — determines currency and shipping calculations
- Language — the store’s UI language (requires you to install translations via Shopify Translate & Adapt or an app like Weglot)
If you only have multiple currencies but one language, the selector shows only the country dropdown.
