Countdown

A live countdown showing time remaining until a specific date and time. Only use for real deadlines — sale ends, drop launches, event registration close, etc.

Add a countdown

Add section → Countdown

Set the end date and time

Pick the exact date and time (with time zone) when the countdown should hit zero. This is a real end date — not a fake “evergreen” loop.

Write the heading

Frame what’s ending. Examples:

  • “Summer sale ends in”
  • “Drop closes in”
  • “Registration open for”

Add a subheading and CTA

Optional supporting line, plus a button that takes shoppers to whatever’s about to end (the sale collection, the product, the signup form).

Save

What happens at zero

When the countdown reaches 00:00:00:00, the section shows an end message you configure:

Click the section

Find Message after countdown ends

Enter a fallback message: “Sale ended”, “Registration closed”. You can also add a follow-up CTA — “Get notified about the next drop”.

Don’t fake countdowns. Fake evergreen timers (where the countdown restarts every visitor session) train shoppers to distrust your site. Real deadlines convert. Fake deadlines lose sales long-term.

Display format

Same panel, find Display

Options:

  • Days · Hours · Minutes · Seconds (default, full clock)
  • Days · Hours · Minutes (drops seconds — cleaner for multi-day sales)
  • Hours · Minutes · Seconds (drops days — for same-day flash sales)

Time zone

Countdowns use the store’s Shopify time zone (set in Settings → General → Timezone in your admin). Shoppers see the countdown from their own device clock, so the “ends in 2 hours” is accurate for everyone in their local time.
