Subscriptions
Citera supports subscriptions (Shopify selling plans) on the product page. When a product has subscription options, shoppers see a “One-time purchase” / “Subscribe & save” choice plus a dropdown of the available plans — and the right plan is added to the cart automatically.
No theme setting to turn on. The subscription UI appears automatically for any product that has selling plan groups. If a product has no plans, nothing shows — which is the correct behaviour.
What you need
Subscriptions in Shopify are provided by an app — the theme renders the options, the app creates the plans. Any app that uses Shopify’s native selling plans works, for example:
- Shopify Subscriptions (free, by Shopify)
- Recharge, Appstle, Seal Subscriptions, and other selling-plan apps
Install a subscriptions app
From the Shopify App Store. Shopify Subscriptions is the simplest starting point.
Create a selling plan and attach it to products
In the app, create a plan (e.g. “Deliver every 30 days — save 10%”) and apply it to the products you want to offer on subscription.
Open the product on your storefront
The One-time purchase / Subscribe & save control now appears on the product page, above the Add to cart button.
How it behaves
- Shoppers pick one-time or subscribe, then choose a delivery frequency from the plan dropdown.
- The selection is reactive to the variant — change the size or flavour and the available plans update.
- Add to cart and Buy it now both carry the chosen plan through to checkout.
- Products without plans show the normal buy area — no empty dropdown, no clutter.
If you don’t see the subscribe option on a product that should have it, check in your subscriptions app that a selling plan is actually attached to that product (not just created). The theme only shows what the product exposes.
